CARLSBAD, CA (Jan. 22, 2025) – Upper Deck, the worldwide leader in sports and entertainment collectibles, today announced its collaboration with the USS Midway Museum to bring the history of the USS Midway (CV 41) to life through a series of trading card collectibles. The trading cards will feature sailors who served aboard as a subset of the Goodwin Champions collection, alongside relic cards showcasing unique memorabilia items from the USS Midway.
The USS Midway was a revolutionary aircraft carrier that served for nearly 50 years. At the time of its commissioning, it was the largest ship in the world and the first aircraft carrier too large to transit the Panama Canal. The Midway played a crucial role in many historical events, including the Cold War, Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm. Today, the Midway continues to serve as a popular museum ship in San Diego, Calif., attracting over 1 million visitors annually.
“This is an opportunity to tell the stories of Midway’s 47 years of service in a truly unique way,” said Terry Kraft, CEO of the USS Midway Museum. “Midway’s operations and its heroic stories will be celebrated through this series of cards. We’re excited to commemorate Midway’s role in protecting and defending the freedoms we all enjoy through this new Upper Deck collectible card set.”
The USS Midway trading card collection will feature informational cards of the Midway itself and its operations like Operations Frequent Wind, Fiery Vigil, and Desert Storm. Additionally, collectors and history aficionados can collect autographed cards of Midway heroes telling their stories of courage and sacrifice, as well as relic cards featuring Midway collectibles like cuttings of Midway sailor uniforms and patches.
”The Upper Deck Company and the USS Midway Museum share a long-standing relationship with the County of San Diego. It is an honor to collaborate with them to commemorate its iconic history through Upper Deck trading cards,” said Jason Masherah, president of Upper Deck. “This collaboration brings together the excitement of collecting with the rich history of the Midway for all generations.”
Collectors can now find the USS Midway trading card set within Goodwin Champions highlighting key moments of its history at Certified Diamond Dealers and UpperDeckStore.com.
