Rush of Ikorr Act 2 Part 1 Epic Journey New Mechanics

New exciting mechanics are coming to the battlefield in Rush of Ikorr Act 2 Part 1 Epic Journey! Let’s take a look at some of the new keywords and card abilities coming out with the latest set release.

New Keywords

Traverse

Traverse – ACTION – Target allied player gains control of this champion. During your turn, you may have another target allied player gain control of this champion. This champion may only traverse once each turn.

Cards with Traverse are ideal for 2 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 3 battles. Optimize teamworking synergies by giving your teammates champions to use against the opposing player across from them. Many cards with Traverse have additional card abilities that trigger when the card traverses, providing further payout for the allied player that gained control of the card.

Some cards even prevent Traverse, like Dōsojin, which blocks all Champions on both sides of the battlefield from Traversing until Dōsojin is removed from the battlefield.

Trade N

Trade N – Move N stored Ikorr from a permanent you control to another targeted allied champion.

When trading, players will be able to trigger additional abilities indicated by the card text. The Tulum Seaport is a Location that allows Champions you control to trade to this location as if it were an allied champion, making it more difficult for your opponents to remove from the battlefield since it is a Location.

Lifebind

Lifebind – When this champion enters the battlefield, choose an adjacent champion that is not lifebound. If that chosen champion would be attacked or targeted, you may have this champion be attacked or targeted instead.

essentially allows champions to protect or take damage for another allied champion. Fabled Champions like Polites, Dearest Friend and Telemachus, Destiny’s Heir provide additional benefits to cards with the Lifebind key word. Polites, Dearest Friend will fully heal an allied Lifebound champion whenever a champion strikes another champion, except by battle. Telemachus, Destiny’s Heir cuts the cost of champions you summon with Lifebind by 2, providing epic card combo potential for decks that focus on Lifebind cards!

Other New Mechanics

Choose One

Choose One – is a fun new mechanic that provides players with the power of choice. Some card text requires players to pay a cost for the different choices, others allow players to simply choose one with no additional cost. Choose One allows players to have more control over a card’s abilities based on the given state of the game. This is a great way to further push the bounds of highly strategic gameplay.

Counters

Counters – Counters are stored on a player or can also be stored on permanents. Certain cards will add, pay, or care about the number of Counters that a player has. Counters are an additional resource that players can spend to gain additional benefits determined by card text. They are used to represent different effects on a permanent or player, effects that last for multiple turns are also included.  There are different types of counters like Flood Counters and Flame Counters. Cards will refer to a specific type of counter when necessary.

Tokens

A Token is a Permanent that can be represented by a Token card or object. Tokens are created by the effects of Spells and Abilities and have no Influence Cost. Tokens can be represented by cards but are not cards. However, Token Abilities are still treated as card effects for the purpose of game mechanics. The Copy Token represents a copy of a permanent including all printed text, stats, abilities, aspects, influence cost, and infusions. Some card abilities will tell you to create a specific Token. For example, Eumaeus, Humble Provisioner says “Whenever the chosen champion raids, summon a 1/3/1 devotion Beast champion token named “Pig”.” The token stats are 1/3/1 representing values for Attack/Health/Raid. Tokens are not built into your deck and once removed from the battlefield they cease to exist.
