Growing up in Southern California, volleyball and beach volleyball were in Misty May-Treanor’s blood. The beach volleyball legend was born in Los Angeles, where she would play beach volleyball with her parents and at age eight teamed up with her dad, a former professional volleyball player, in her first tournament. May-Treanor eventually ended up in Orange County, where she led Newport Harbor High School to two state championships and was once named the top high school girls volleyball player in the country. She continued her dominance in college at Long Beach State University, who she led to a championship in an undefeated season while winning two National Player of the Year awards. After college, May-Treanor realized her home was on the beach, where she went on to be one of the greatest volleyball players of all time. Famously paired with Kerri Walsh Jennings, May-Treanor helped set numerous records to redefine the sport, while collecting many team and individual accolades along the way.
