With the fifth overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected power forward Kevin Garnett, a player who would go on to make a huge impact on the game of basketball. With many accolades in high school, including a National High School Player of the Year award and a spot among the 35 Greatest McDonald’s All-Americans, he was a prized recruit in 1995. While playing college basketball was an option, Garnett decided to forgo college and became the first player drafted out of high school since 1975 and at 19 became the youngest player in NBA history at the time. This would set the trend for many players to come who made the same decision to make the jump out of high school. The Kid immediately performed in the NBA and continued to rise among the best players in the league, earning him the richest contract at the time in pro sports history at just age 21. Garnett would eventually win MVP in the 2003-04 while establishing himself as the best player in Timberwolves history, before continuing his legacy with the Boston Celtics and winning a championship.
