I have to be honest, when I first heard about what an online trading card site called The Bench was planning to do with regard to Upper Deck’s 6,742 Yankee Stadium Legacy set, I quickly dismissed it as something that would never happen. Their goal was to put together the entire set and then auction it off to help the Jimmy V foundation. It was an admirable goal for sure, but they said they would only take cards on donation from collectors. That’s where I thought they would run into trouble, but I’m happy to share they have proved me wrong.
I went to an event at the National Sports Collectors Convention with some members of Freedom Cardboard and the guys from The Bench happened to be there as well. They shared where they were at with the set and how it has been going. I could not believe how far they had come.
They have been working diligently since 2008 on this project and they are now just five cards away from completing the entire set. We are asking all of our baseball collectors to go back through your sets and see if you have any of these cards to help out this monumental collecting effort. Here are the last five cards they need to finish the set:
