Jordan’s Last Title in Chicago Lives on 25 Years Later
25 years ago, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls secured their sixth championship
and capped off one of the most impressive runs in NBA history. To celebrate, Upper
Deck has put together a collection of unique memorabilia commemorating the unforgettable
season and Jordan’s career.
It’s late into the evening on June 14, 1998, and Michael Jordan is on the precipice
of history. You can still hear this moment clearly, 25 years later.
“Seventeen seconds from game seven or championship number six.” After Michael Jordan
picked Karl Malone’s pocket, Bob Costas’ call set the stage for the Greatest of
All Time to do what only he could.
Whether you’re an NBA fan or not, you know what comes next. There is perhaps no
more unforgettable moment in the history of the sport: Jordan, drenched in sweat
(and Bulls red), made Bryon Russell disappear. He elevated -- and sunk the shot
that would give Chicago the lead and its sixth banner hanging from the rafters.
That shot, The Last Shot, was the culmination of arguably the greatest career in
basketball history. As Jordan hung in the air, a memory captured forever in one
of our -new autographed prints, you can feel every shot, every play that led him
to that moment flash before him.

The battles year after year through the playoffs, the contest against other future
Hall of Famers, including one last showdown with the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern
Conference Finals. Then, one last clash with the Utah Jazz — the team that stood
in the way of the Bulls’ fifth championship just one season earlier.
And just as fast as it all happens, it’s over, and there is one lasting image that
will stick with you for a lifetime: Jordan’s hand in the air as the ball splashes
through the net.
Fans continued to tune in game after game and expectations also continued to skyrocket,
but Jordan was set out to do the only thing that Jordan knew: win it all.
And the Bulls did exactly that. With the entire league out to stop them, Jordan
and the Bulls won the 1998 NBA Championship.
On that historic June night in Utah, Jordan once again lifted the championship trophy
above his head. It completed the second threepeat of Jordan’s career, and capped
off one of the most impressive runs any player or team has put together in the history
of the NBA.

To live up to those expectations is nothing short of incredible. It couldn’t have
been scripted because if it was it would seem just too perfect.
But that is the magic of watching Michael Jordan: you just believed that he could
do anything, no matter what — and then he would.
It’s been 25 years since Jordan laced up his iconic Air Jordan 13s and brought home
a sixth banner for the city of Chicago, but it hangs every bit as proudly as it
did the day it was raised.
There is no forgetting Jordan’s final season with the Bulls — our series of Upper
Deck Michael Jordan collectibles commemorating the year will ensure that.
